Keeping momentum and morale high for nearly 500 craftspeople working on the Baird Center expansion is a top priority for Wisconsin Center District leadership. On December 18, a special break with cookies, hot cocoa and coffee was provided, but what the labor force didn’t know was that a special guest would be serving up the holiday cheer.
The workers made their way to the exhibit level of the expansion where a buzz was starting to build. They waited patiently in line to enter a mystery raffle and enjoy some holiday treats. The special guest made his way into the exhibit hall, and at 6’10”, he was tough to miss. Milwaukee’s Hype Man and Milwaukee Bucks NBA Champion Bobby Portis was on site.
Chants of “Bobby! Bobby! Bobby!” echoed throughout the exhibit hall as the Bucks sixth man made his way into the crowd of craftspeople, posing for photos and thanking everyone for their hard work and dedication.
After enjoying cookies, cocoa and camaraderie with the workers, Portis was escorted by Wisconsin Center District President and CEO Marty Brooks on a site tour of the $456 million project, set to open in May 2024.
“There was no better way to create excitement for the grand opening of the Baird Center expansion than having Milwaukee’s Official Hype Man on site to spend time with our local workers and learn more about all that the expansion will do for the city of Milwaukee and Wisconsin’s tourism industry. Bobby Portis is one of Milwaukee’s most influential cheerleaders, and we are proud to show him why the Baird Center expansion is worth rooting for,” Wisconsin Center District President and CEO Marty Brooks said.
